brand rec #002. The future is bright with Future Reference.
This letter is brought you by Future Reference. If you’re interesting in sponsoring ‘in good taste’, please apply here.
If you've ever felt stuck spending hoooursss listing your pre-loved items on multiple platforms (hello to me, circa 2023 when I hard launched my personal brand selling vintage clothing).
Or maybe you find yourself frustrated by lower than expected returns on managed marketplaces like The Real Real. I’ve been there too. Not fun!
Not only do I have exciting news (a 1 stop solution to list your pre-loved pieces on multiple platforms with the click of a button), but I’m also parting with a substantial portion of my closet, and will be sharing what and why I’m letting go of.
The future is bright with Future Reference.
As someone who has completed a lot of closet purges (for both myself and my personal styling clients) and has resold an abundance of luxury items online, Future Reference simplifies the process… tremendously.
With F|R you can:
List Once, Sell Everywhere: Reach buyers across Poshmark, Vestiaire Collective, Depop, and eBay with a single, AI-optimized listing.
Save Time: Automate cross-listing and management (90% faster than doing it manually) (for real).
Earn More: Keep up to 40% more compared to consignment services.
Optimize Your Wardrobe: Gain insights into your closet and make smarter shopping and selling decisions.
Essentially, F|R manages each marketplace for you, participating in ‘parties’ and strategically listing/ delisting your items for optimal visibility.
Not only is F|R a reselling tool, but a closet digitizing one as well.
With the “My Wardrobe” function, your recent purchases will be automatically imported by way of your email confirmations.
With permission, the software will connect your email to your F|R account which:
Estimates the potential resale value for you if you ever wish to re-home them.
Helps you analyze your personal style over time, observing patterns and themes across items you do/ don’t resonate with.
That being said, I’ve given the platform a go myself and am reporting on the experience below…
I've listed nearly 30 pieces on F|R, and the process was as straightforward and user-friendly as any other reselling platform. After manually uploading my items, or linking them via their URL (if non-vintage/ still available online), the site automatically generated all of the listing details for me, including a thoughtful description and a recommended price based on the condition & age of the item.
My pieces were reviewed quickly (less than 1 day) and cross-listed on multiple selling platforms without any additional effort on my part. SO SIMPLE!
Full, transparency I have yet to make a sale as this was a recent project I’ve embarked on, but I will keep you posted on that part of the process in the comments of this post once I have, (F|R does take an additional 10% fee once the sale is complete, but this is factored into the recommended listing price, ensuring you still receive your desired earnings).
This is a tool I’ll be using over and over and over again to sell pre-loved items that no longer bring me joy/ strongly communicate my style POV. Which brings me to part 2!
What & why I’m letting go of:
I’m sharing this not because my reasonings are riveting, but because my heightened awareness of my preferred silhouettes, fabrics, and proportions, & more, has made it much easier to recognize what no longer works for me, so this is valuable learning material.
If you’re curious, I encourage you to browse through my comments and then take a look through your own closet to assess the same for yourself.

COLOR:
These items are simply just not my hue. I tend to feel washed out and invisible in them- so they’re going. It’s easy to see the through-line here, deep warm tones (especially brown) which I will refrain from purchasing in the future.

EXAGGERATED SILHOUETTES:
Oversized blazers, bubble skirts, etc.. exaggerated silhouettes can be lots of fun to play with, but can often be trendier items. I have felt the burnout of the oversized blazer for a bit more than a year now, and am ready to part with these classic but quite-honestly, ill-fitting pieces. I much prefer a tailored, slim to the body fit (in button-ups too). The bubble skirt. LOL. It was never worn (except in an attempt to style) and it’s too late to return. Mistakes happen. It’s all good.
TAILORING GRAVEYARD:
Items I meant to take to the tailor & customize, but I am no longer interested enough in the pieces to do so.
I wanted to take in the waist & shorten the hem of this jacket, and alter the matching skirt (not shown) to fit my lower waistline. I now feel uninspired by the print and overall tone of the set. It doesn’t speak to something my future self would wear, so I don’t want to spend an additional $50+ on it.
I have 3 cream vintage midi pencil skirts in my closet, so I dreamt of shortening this one a bit for variety, but don’t really wear mini skirts. Butttt… as I’m writing this I’m tempted to give it a shot. Let’s see if it sells.
REQUIRES COMPENSATION:
These pieces are not inherently “me”- the fabric is too loud, or the structure too preppy- and they always require going the extra mile in styling to feel good in. Too much work, not enough ease. Plus clearing these half-baked styles from my closet helps to clarify my actual POV very powerfully.
My closet and mental space is feeling sooo refreshed after listing on Future Reference - I hope you give it a try too. LMK what you’ve recently purged in the comments!
As always if you’re in need of 1:1 guidance to clear & rejuvenate your closet, book a discovery call.
“Bari’s styling is not a short term band-aid to looking more hip. Rather, if you are ready to invest in yourself, look inward and understand who you want to exude to the world, and slowly curate a closet for yourself that will last a lifetime, connect with Bari. She has changed the way I think about clothing and I am forever grateful!” - Chloe C.
Thanks for reading. Sending love. X.
WHAT! I say again, WHAT! I had no idea I needed this until now and I really NEED this because of the second-hand selling I do. Do I have to do the closet digitizing? I already use Indyx (AND I'm a little leery of giving apps access to my email)...
Literally joined 3 days ago. This app is genius and I am already obsessed with it!
