Spring
Hi!
Spring Cleaning-time is right around the corner (I capitalize bc it’s a holiday, obviously). If you follow me on IG/ Tiktok you’ve probably heard me discussing already.
This really is a time to celebrate. A new season of life is approaching, and we can use this change as inspiration to step into the next iteration of ourselves.
This season’s magic is in Growth.
So I would like to give you some tips on editing & refining your closets/homes in the spirit of continued evolution in Spring <3.
Merchandise Your Closet
I posted on IG stories recently that I too began editing my closet. I sparked a lot of conversation in the DM’s when mentioning that I “re-merchandised” it, which as a personal stylist is not a new concept, but to my clients/ friends the idea was evidently pretty transformational.
Editing is a really intentional decluttering of your closet that occurs only after having done the work to understand yourself & your style POV. Clearing your closet before having done the inner work, is less of a process and more of a long string of misguided action. Where Editing after the work is the doorway to transformation.
Of course, there’s a level of functionality that needs to accompany an easily manageable closet.
But the key is to understand that ‘manageable’ is not ‘looks the most organized & prettiest’. It is whichever system brings you the most ease in getting dressed and allows you to feed your Creative Gut while doing so.
I used to organize my closet by color-coordinating all of my hanging pieces. T-shirts, blouses, dresses, blazers- all blended together so long as they held the same hue. Pants were lumped together in the same color order on the very right. For years (maybe since middle school?)I had done this because it’s what one of my (3) fabulous Grandmother’s had taught me to do.
I didn’t continue organizing in this way because of function/ease/creative inspiration, but rather because it had become such routine for me that I created a rule around how it should be maintained.
Last Newsletter I talked about changing our Goals, and today I’m going to encourage us to change our Rules.
You’re going to hear me talk about Rules and Rule-breaking a lot in the near future.
Rules are great for as long as they work for you and not against you. A rule that does not work for you is a limiting belief.
A few years ago I questioned the limiting belief that I need to organize my closet and decided to adapt a Rule that it should be merchandised.
The shift from organizing to merchandising is in what I mentioned earlier. Tidying up/ arranging pieces in aesthetically pleasing manner vs deliberately cultivating an environment that sparks creativity.
I ask myself if certain pants can be stowed away, maybe a specific cut is not my thing at the moment (wide-leg for me rn) but could be sometime again.
I wonder if displaying some handbags out of their dust bags will provide better usage opportunity.
Maybe I move my button ups from the left side to the middle of my closet. Or clean off my shelf of shoes & replace them with my collection of colorful cashmere crewnecks.
Give yourself freedom.
Ignore what you’ve been taught.
If you want to surround the perimeter of your bedroom with shoes, I encourage it. If you want your scarves hanging from the ceiling of your closet I am your #1 supporter.
I reach for the “abnormal” here to really inspire you to think differently. You are in the driver’s seat.
The biggest piece of advice I can give you here is to create systems that match the habits of the person you want to grow into.
So now every season I re-edit, I also re-imagine and re-define to reflect my desired identity of that given time.
If you’re interested in working together 1:1 to sharpen your style POV, edit your closet, & incorporate some really incredible and intentional new additions to your wardrobe- book a Style Discovery Call with me below (here’s what my clients are saying).
Part 2: Things I’m Eyeing for Spring
Okay I’m excitteedddd because I’m starting to shop again. I haven’t talked about this for some reason but I haven’t really shopped for myself much since about October. It was super intentional and necessary- I’ll talk about that more another day, but I am SO thrilled to announce that I am almost ready to start pressing check out on a few things. What I’m loving:
