But first, do you remember the goal here anyway?
In the heat of consumerism, where wishlists, trends, influencers, and comparisons dictate our purchases, it's easy to lose sight of the underlying purpose. What drives us to constantly chase the next best thing?
Is it simply to perpetuate a cycle of relentless consumption? Maybe it's the allure of fitting in, of being part of a larger narrative that compels us to stay "on trend"? There's a deep-seated human need for connection and belonging; conforming to societal norms like fashion trends can fulfill that need.
Or maybe it’s the opposite. Maybe in order to properly understand ourselves we need to isolate from the masses and deliberately stand out through our style expression.
Yet, there’s still more here than just a desire to blend in or to not.
Ultimately, beyond the superficial layers of fashion and style, lies a deeper yearning – the desire to feel at home in our own skin, to have our clothing serve as a mirror to our spirit, our values, and our true nature.
We want pieces that resonate with who we are, that speak to our individuality, and allow us to navigate the world with a sense of authenticity and purpose.
Personal style is about finding a sense of belongingness to yourself, expressing your uniqueness, and feeling deeply connected to the world around you through the clothes you wear.
So you have to treat it as an extension of yourself - your wardrobe is alive.
The Wardrobe is Alive
I like to view the wardrobe as a living organism because it offers a dynamic, realistic perspective about how we interact with our clothing.
Just like a living organism, a wardrobe undergoes growth, movement, and adaptation to its environment.
As we acquire new pieces, our wardrobe expands, evolving with our changing tastes and lifestyles, undergoing a constant process of renewal and transformation much like we do.
The wardrobe excretes. It’s forced to remove/ declutter to sustain optimal health.
The wardrobe pragmatically responds to its environment. Our clothing choices are influenced by factors like climate, culture, and lifestyle. If you’re blessed enough to travel & explore- the wardrobe could potentially need to respond to various environments.
So what does this all mean at the end of the day?
It means that our closet stores our Style DNA.
Style DNA & The Nuclear Wardrobe
The nucleus, or control center of a cell holds most of its DNA, and DNA writes the instruction manual for the function, growth, & change the being will undergo.
The nucleus of your closet, or what I like to call the "nuclear wardrobe", comprises the items that do the same. These pieces are the core components of your closet, ones you:
1. wear most frequently
greatly resonate with through essence
have owned for the longest (& have held onto very intentionally)
These pieces mold our style DNA, reflecting our inherent preferences and personal aesthetic that’s been proven over time or through deep vibrancy.
Analyzing the characteristics of our nuclear wardrobe provides valuable insights that can inform future additions to our collection.
Deeply understanding what kind of proportions, silhouettes, fabrics, patterns, colors (and more) feel most comfortable and true to us, allows us to align with our style DNA, so we can clearly & easily curate a wardrobe that feels authentic, cohesive, & creative.
That’s what I’ll help you to realize & collect as your Personal Stylist!
Understanding is what you crave, things are not. XOX
